Michigan Rocks And Wood started out as an Ebay store selling local rocks and minerals from around the State. For years the shop grew and started to carry a wider variety of rocks and minerals. Recently with the increasing costs of shipping, we have brought our entire inventory into our brick and mortar shop. Here locals can shop in person and save on shipping. We currently have over 1,000 products in our inventory which includes mine artifacts prospecting supplies.
All through the year we love to go out and explore various places in Michigan and pick up rock specimens to add to our inventory.
Michigan Mineral HistoryMost people are not aware of the fact that Michigan has a very rich mineral history and a wealth of valuable resources buried beneath the surface. Long before settlers arrived in these shores, the natives were harvesting native copper for use in tools and weapons.
Glaciers once covered this land and transported rocks and minerals from Canada to spread them over this beautiful State. Michigan also has a long history of volcanic action which deposited many layers of lava. This lava has been buried over time and is deep underground. But this lava contains many valuable minerals including silver, copper and many gemstones. There are even a couple gold mines in upper Michigan.
